Hi! This is my first blog post! I thought I would share a little Ocean Beach history with you guys since I love this area so much.  I hope you enjoy, and check back from time to time for more info on Ocean Beach, Point Loma, and anything else I come up with.

Ocean Beach began in 1887 with Frank Higgins and Billy Carlson, two real estate developers. They marked lots in the area and sold the land during a big mussel roast on the beach. The town began development at the beginning of the 20th Century. However, it took a considerable amount of time before Ocean Beach truly developed.

It remained a small beach community up until the 1940s. People had beach homes (for vacationing) and many of them didn't even have kitchens. They were just a building with a room for sleeping, almost like camping. We still have some of those homes now, but kitchens and bathrooms have been added.

Most of the area's major construction took place in the 1940s and 1950s. It was Wonderland Amusment Park on the beach that started drawing major attention to Ocean Beach and it grew to become a part of the 2nd largest city in the state, San Diego. Much of the history in Ocean Beach has been preserved including the antique buildings. And that is by demand of the locals.
